WATT AN ARTIST!

WATT AN ARTIST!

Ben Watt celebrates his birthday tomorrow, so what better time to spotlight the vital early work he and Tracey Thorn recorded for Cherry Red. Ben arrived at the label as a Hull University student in 1981, later making his cult classic debut North Marine Drive. Tracey’s formative years were equally entwined with Cherry Red – first with lo-fi indie trio The Marine Girls then as a solo artist with her acclaimed 1983 LP A Distant Shore. Together, Ben and Tracey formed Everything But The Girl, whose debut single ‘Night and Day’ began its life at Cherry Red. Their early catalogue remains a vital cornerstone of our history.
