THE SOUND OF A CITY
CBGB – A New York City Soundtrack 1975-1986 is the title of our new 4-CD celebration of the legendary Bowery club whose influence shaped punk, new wave and alternative music for generations, capturing both the iconic names and the essential underground voices that defined the scene’s restless creativity. Alongside many much-celebrated names, the set shines a vital spotlight on pioneering artists whose contributions are too often overlooked — including Wayne County (now Jayne County), a trailblazing figure at the vanguard of New York’s early punk explosion whose fearless style helped define the era’s outsider spirit, and Pure Hell, the first all-African-American punk band, whose incendiary sound fused the raw energy of The Stooges and MC5 with a groundbreaking cultural presence.
