The Language Of Be Bop
Pioneering musician Bill Nelson, known as one of the most underrated guitarists of the 1970s and frontman of the inimitable art-rock band Be-Bop Deluxe, has enjoyed a long and varied career. Arguably, his final album with Be-Bop Deluxe proved his most visionary. Released in 1978, Drastic Plastic arrived on the cusp of new wave evolving into synth-pop. The opening track, ‘Electrical Language’, is a masterpiece of electronic virtuosity; this catchy, mid-tempo song exhibits soon-to-be-familiar synth loops alongside Bill’s guitar wizardry and captivating songwriting chops that made him so renowned. The track has recently featured in Amazon Prime’s new comedy sci-fi animation series The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy, which stars Succession’s Kieran Culkin. Cherry Red are custodians of Bill’s catalogue, including his work with Be-Bop Deluxe, Red Noise and solo material.
