The Kingdom Of United Records

UK Records was launched in 1972 as an outlet for pop star/Svengali Jonathan King. First run by John Peel’s Dandelion Records chief Clive Selwood (amongst others), the label scored chart hits for the likes of Terry Dactyl and the Dinosaurs (fronted by Jona Lewie) and 10cc. UK also released successful singles by the First Class, Carl Malcolm, Kevin Johnson, Roy C, Lobo, Freddie Garrity, Bubblerock, 53rd and 3^rd, One Hundred Ton And A Feather, The Kursaal Flyers and JK himself. Successful albums included the Original London Stage Soundtrack of ‘The Rocky Horror Show.’ Cherry Red present much of the UK Records’ output so drop us a line if you’re curious?

FOXY FRIENDS

Noosha Fox and friends injected some sophisticated glamour into the UK charts of the mid-1970s. Fox‘s ‘Only You Can’ peaked at No. 3 while ‘S-S-S Single Bed‘ peaked one place lower. ‘If I Point At The Moon’, taken from their 1975 self-titled album, is a lilting, sublime pop ditty that sounds remarkably timeless. The song is featured in the US drama mini-series A Friend Of The Family, which aired recently on the Peacock network.
