Revisiting A Distant Shore

First with indie trio The Marine Girls and then both as a solo artist and as one half of Everything But The Girl (for debut 45 ‘Night And Day’), Tracey Thorn spent the formative years of her fruitful career at Cherry Red. Her acclaimed solo LP A Distant Shore was first released in 1983 and become a cult classic, not to mention a mainstay on the Independent Album Charts at the time. We’ve just reissued the album as a deluxe CD and vinyl edition, freshly mastered at Abbey Road Studios, with new sleeve-notes penned by Tracey. An album full of engaging, melodic tunes and heartfelt lyrics delivered with her distinctive warm vocals, A Distant Shore remains one of our proudest achievements here at Cherry Red.

FOXY FRIENDS

Noosha Fox and friends injected some sophisticated glamour into the UK charts of the mid-1970s. Fox‘s ‘Only You Can’ peaked at No. 3 while ‘S-S-S Single Bed‘ peaked one place lower. ‘If I Point At The Moon’, taken from their 1975 self-titled album, is a lilting, sublime pop ditty that sounds remarkably timeless. The song is featured in the US drama mini-series A Friend Of The Family, which aired recently on the Peacock network.
