Rainey Day Parade

Maxayn were an early 70s funk/soul band fronted by the charismatic vocalist Maxayn Lewis – imagine early Rufus crossed with Funkadelic.

Between 1972 and 1974, they made three much-admired albums for Capricorn. Recently, Maxayn lent her powerful vocals to the critically acclaimed Netflix film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, a drama about the influential blues singer.

The film was produced by Denzel Washington and features the final performance from the late Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman. Cherry Red are the exclusive representatives for Maxayn’s recordings: the albums Maxayn, Mindful and Bail Out For Fun!
