POW(D)ER POP!
Hailing from London and fronted by Pearl Lowe, Powder shone brightly but briefly for a couple of years in the mid-90s. Their second single, ‘Afrodisiac’ (June 1995), was arguably their peak, reaching the UK Top 75. A brash and energetic slice of mid-90s Britpop, the song captured the era’s raw, guitar-driven sound and earned Powder festival slots and TV appearances, including on the BBC’s Britpop Now special. Cherry Red represent rights to ‘Afrodisiac’ alongside the erst of Powder’s all-too-diminutive output, as well as subsequent solo tracks by Pearl Lowe.
