Having signed to Cherry Red as solo artists, Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt met and formed the duo Everything But The Girl (named after the slogan of a furniture store in Hull, where they both studied). In spring 1982, the pair released their debut single, a haunting, intimate cover of Cole Porter‘s 30s jazz classic ‘Night And Day’. That track has been used in a new French series called Desordres; a comedy based around a fictional public figure who lives a dual life as a politician and parent.

FOXY FRIENDS

Noosha Fox and friends injected some sophisticated glamour into the UK charts of the mid-1970s. Fox‘s ‘Only You Can’ peaked at No. 3 while ‘S-S-S Single Bed‘ peaked one place lower. ‘If I Point At The Moon’, taken from their 1975 self-titled album, is a lilting, sublime pop ditty that sounds remarkably timeless. The song is featured in the US drama mini-series A Friend Of The Family, which aired recently on the Peacock network.
