MUSICAL SPARKS!
Owned by one of the world’s leading independent publishing companies, Peer Music, Spark Records came to life in the late 60s, spinning off Southern Music’s recording studios. Spark was the perfect outlet for Southern’s new songs, from out-and-out pop 45s to the more underground sounds of British blues, psychedelia and prog rock. By the 1970s, the label had tapped into the nascent Northern Soul scene with hits from Wigan’s Ovation, as well as enjoying a surprise hit by Scottish brass band The Band Of The Black Watch. Spark also picked up an early soundtrack from the guys in Steely Dan. Today, Peer’s repertoire also includes the output of artists such as The Artwoods (featuring Ronnie Wood’s brother Art), American soul stalwart Tommy Hunt and the many and varied recordings of John Carter (including hits from The Flower Pot Men and First Class). We’re the custodians of the Peer Music catalogue so get in touch if you’re interested to know more.
