MUSIC ON THE FRONT FOOT?

“Shoegaze” was a term coined around 1990 to describe a wave of UK indie guitar bands influenced by acts such as My Bloody Valentine and the Cocteau Twins. Since then, the genre has evolved into a hugely influential movement, shaping generations of artists around the world. Celebrating the scene’s development from the late 1980s onwards, We Are The Beautiful is an expansive 4-CD set charting the scene’s journey from underground UK phenomenon to global influence. Cherry Red also represents tracks by many artists connected to the genre and its dream pop offshoot, including Blind Mr Jones, 14 Iced Bears and The Charlottes.

Noosha Fox and friends injected some sophisticated glamour into the UK charts of the mid-1970s. Fox‘s ‘Only You Can’ peaked at No. 3 while ‘S-S-S Single Bed‘ peaked one place lower. ‘If I Point At The Moon’, taken from their 1975 self-titled album, is a lilting, sublime pop ditty that sounds remarkably timeless. The song is featured in the US drama mini-series A Friend Of The Family, which aired recently on the Peacock network.
