MAX-IMUM FUNK!

Maxayn were an early 70s funk/soul band fronted by the charismatic vocalist Maxayn Lewis – imagine early Rufus crossed with Funkadelic. Between 1972 and 1974, they made three much-admired albums for Capricorn. Their powerful 1972 track ‘I Want To Rest My Mind’ has been used in a recent marketing campaign for season 2 of Apple TV’s hit drama Severance. Cherry Red are the exclusive representatives for Maxayn’s recordings: namely, the albums Maxayn, Mindful and Bail Out For Fun!

FOXY FRIENDS

Noosha Fox and friends injected some sophisticated glamour into the UK charts of the mid-1970s. Fox‘s ‘Only You Can’ peaked at No. 3 while ‘S-S-S Single Bed‘ peaked one place lower. ‘If I Point At The Moon’, taken from their 1975 self-titled album, is a lilting, sublime pop ditty that sounds remarkably timeless. The song is featured in the US drama mini-series A Friend Of The Family, which aired recently on the Peacock network.
