Jazz-capades!

A New Awakening – Adventures In British Jazz 1966-1971 is a 3-CD box set which celebrates the exciting, revolutionary time in UK jazz when musical boundaries were broken and new identities forged. Cherry Red’s jazz archive is represented through artists and groups such as Wynder K. Frog, Affinity, The Ray Russell Quartet, the Newcastle Big Band, Julie Driscoll, John Taylor and Mike Osborne. Cherry Red also have rights to a number of more left-field and avant-garde jazz albums including those by Lol Coxhill, Barre Phillips, Ben Webster, Johnny Griffin and the Sahib Shihab Quintet. For more contemporary sounds, we also control the rights to recordings by Bill Bruford’s Earthworks and the output of 80s/90s jazz supergroup Fourplay. Nice!

Track Of The Week

FOXY FRIENDS

Noosha Fox and friends injected some sophisticated glamour into the UK charts of the mid-1970s. Fox‘s ‘Only You Can’ peaked at No. 3 while ‘S-S-S Single Bed‘ peaked one place lower. ‘If I Point At The Moon’, taken from their 1975 self-titled album, is a lilting, sublime pop ditty that sounds remarkably timeless. The song is featured in the US drama mini-series A Friend Of The Family, which aired recently on the Peacock network.
