Over the past forty-five years, we’ve acquired thousands of masters across all manner of genres. But we never forget where it started: that fecund early period in which Cherry Red thrived as a cutting edge ‘cottage industry’ indie label.

Driven by a spirit perhaps exemplified by Pillows And Prayers, the label issued records by the likes of The Dead Kennedys (the landmark and legendary punk album Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables) Felt, The Monochrome Set, The Nightingales, Destroy All Monsters, Eyeless In Gaza, The Passage, Thomas Leer, Kevin Coyne, Jane, Fantastic Something, as well as the aforementioned records linked to Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn, and many others.

FOXY FRIENDS

Noosha Fox and friends injected some sophisticated glamour into the UK charts of the mid-1970s. Fox‘s ‘Only You Can’ peaked at No. 3 while ‘S-S-S Single Bed‘ peaked one place lower. ‘If I Point At The Moon’, taken from their 1975 self-titled album, is a lilting, sublime pop ditty that sounds remarkably timeless. The song is featured in the US drama mini-series A Friend Of The Family, which aired recently on the Peacock network.
