BENSON’S BOON!
British songwriter and singer Gary Benson scored one of his biggest successes with the heartfelt pop ballad ‘Don’t Throw It All Away’, originally recorded by The Shadows for their 1975 album Specs Appeal and performed in that year’s A Song for Europe. Benson released his version later in 1975 on State Records, reaching No. 20 on the UK Chart and earning him an appearance on Top of the Pops. The song’s enduring appeal is reflected in the diverse range of artists who have since recorded it, from Olivia Newton-John to The Delfonics, while reggae interpretations such as the version by Barrington Levy demonstrate the song’s lasting influence across genres.
