If you like your thrillers gritty, you’ll welcome the return of gruff antihero Tim Roth in Sky Atlantic’s Tin Star.

We for one are grateful the show moved from its original setting in the rocky vistas of a Canadian town and over to the UK – without that we’d never have licensed The Roadrunners’ ‘The Leaving Of Liverpool’, a traditional local folk song interpreted in the Merseybeat style with new lyrics and contemporary (for 1965, mind) references.

Sticking with the theme, we’ve also purchased the rights to the 1973 reunion album Resurrection from scouse pals of John, Paul, George and Ringo, The Big Three. Finally, there is a 3CD anthology from former Stairs leader Edgar Jones due out in January. Boss!

FOXY FRIENDS

Noosha Fox and friends injected some sophisticated glamour into the UK charts of the mid-1970s. Fox‘s ‘Only You Can’ peaked at No. 3 while ‘S-S-S Single Bed‘ peaked one place lower. ‘If I Point At The Moon’, taken from their 1975 self-titled album, is a lilting, sublime pop ditty that sounds remarkably timeless. The song is featured in the US drama mini-series A Friend Of The Family, which aired recently on the Peacock network.
