Feeling Felt
Fronted by the enigmatic, mononymous Lawrence, indie-pop band Felt remain one of the most enduring cult acts. Active between 1980-1989, the band made ten albums and ten singles for the Cherry Red and Creation labels. Other key members included Martin Duffy (later with Primal Scream), Phil King (who went onto Lush and The Jesus & Mary Chain) and the classically trained guitarist Maurice Deebank. Perhaps best known for their independent singles chart-topping ‘Primitive Painters’ (featuring Elizabeth Fraser of Cocteau Twins), Felt disbanded in 1989.
Lawrence went on to form glam-rock stars Denim and currently fronts (in his own words) “the world’s first b-side band” Go-Kart Mozart. Felt are much loved to this day and have been a direct influence on artists like Tim Burgess, Manic Street Preachers and Stuart Murdoch from Belle & Sebastian.
The entire Felt catalogue is controlled by Cherry Red.
