EXCEL-LENT DANCING!
The Excels were one of the most successful groups to emerge from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, building a following during the 1960s with their harmony-driven sound inspired by acts like the Beach Boys. Based around Marquette and led by vocalist Clark Sullivan, the band recorded a series of singles for Carla Records. While national success proved elusive, they scored some regional hits, on the back of their reputation as a popular live act, sharing stages with major artists of the era. Their track ‘Let’s Dance’ has featured in a new advert for US Jewellery retailer Zales.
