Edgar Jones And The Stairs

Ever since emerging with his unashamedly retro combo The Stairs in 1991, Edgar Jones (alias Edgar Summertyme) has carved a splendid niche in exhuming the spirit of mid-60s US garage rock and British R&B.

The Liverpudlian singer, songwriter and bassist has now brought his extensive catalogue of over a dozen albums to Cherry Red, from various LPs by The Stairs to the acclaimed N’awlins R&B homage Soothing Music For Stray Cats, and various sessions with short-lived bands The Isrites and The Big Kids (two members of whom went onto be in The Zutons).

Noosha Fox and friends injected some sophisticated glamour into the UK charts of the mid-1970s. Fox‘s ‘Only You Can’ peaked at No. 3 while ‘S-S-S Single Bed‘ peaked one place lower. ‘If I Point At The Moon’, taken from their 1975 self-titled album, is a lilting, sublime pop ditty that sounds remarkably timeless. The song is featured in the US drama mini-series A Friend Of The Family, which aired recently on the Peacock network.
