DIG THAT SCENE!
Celebrating the jazz influence on mid-80s British pop, our new 4-CD collection Digging Your Scene (New Pop And All That Jazz) captures a period when bossa, Latin rhythms and classic standards shaped a new wave of artists. Emerging from Soho hotspots like The Wag Club, the ‘New Jazz’ movement bridged club culture and the mainstream, culminating in wider exposure (such as via the film Absolute Beginners). The result was a moment when jazz-tinged pop was firmly in the charts, blending sophistication with accessibility. Cherry Red represent plenty of music in this wheelhouse, from Everything But The Girl and Blue Rondo A La Turk to a raft of El Records artistes. Drop us a line to hear more.
