Cherry Red acquire Contempo Records catalogue titles
Back in the mid-1970s, Contempo Records was one of the most prolific soul/funk labels in the UK, combining American recordings with homegrown productions.
The label was run by Blues & Soul head honcho John Abbey, who attracted many respected U.S. soul stars into the studio, making singles and albums by the likes of Major Lance, Sam & Dave, Oscar Toney Jnr., Doris Duke.
Marvin Smith, Jimmy Thomas and J.J. Barnes, as well as UK acts such as Ultrafunk.
