Cherry Red acquire Be Bop Deluxe catalogue

In the mid-Seventies lull between Glam Rock and Punk, Be Bop Deluxe epitomised a new breed of Art Rock bands.

Led by Bill Nelson and signed to the fashionable Harvest label, the band mixed Progressive Rock leanings with melodic songs across five acclaimed studios albums and a live double LP between 1974 and 1978: Axe Victim, Futurama, Sunburst Finish, Modern Music, Live! In The Air Age and Drastic Plastic, most of which troubled the UK Top 30.

Be Bop Deluxe also scored a pop hit with ‘Ships In The Night’ (No. 23, 1976).

FOXY FRIENDS

Noosha Fox and friends injected some sophisticated glamour into the UK charts of the mid-1970s. Fox‘s ‘Only You Can’ peaked at No. 3 while ‘S-S-S Single Bed‘ peaked one place lower. ‘If I Point At The Moon’, taken from their 1975 self-titled album, is a lilting, sublime pop ditty that sounds remarkably timeless. The song is featured in the US drama mini-series A Friend Of The Family, which aired recently on the Peacock network.
