Beeside Themselves
Tintern Abbey were a British psychedelic rock band professionally active between 1967 and 1968, who are best remembered for their single ‘Vacuum Cleaner’.
Formed by Stuart MacKay and Don Smith after meeting David MacTavish at the Overseas Visitors Club in London, the band later included classic rock guitarist Paul Brett. Tintern Abbey only released one single, ‘Beeside’ / ‘Vacuum Cleaner’, which is now highly sought-after by collectors (selling for £1000!) as one of the best examples of British psychedelia.
Cherry Red are the proud custodians of a large collection of Tintern Abbey repertoire, including unissued demos, home recordings and other assorted songs – including an early demo of ‘Beeside’ called ‘Busy Bee.’
Beeside is also the title of a forthcoming 2-CD, issued on our Grapefruit label on 20 August.
