1980: Do It With Mataya Clifford

Born in Zimbabwe, Mataya Clifford Chewaluza moved to London in 1967 and recorded for a variety of labels before ending up at North London-based Do It Records in 1980.

Clifford’s sole single for Do It, ‘Living Wild’, was an infectious fusion of NYC-styled No Wave, funk, disco and post-punk, with a sleeve designed by Stuart Goddard (alias Adam Ant).

‘Living Wild’ is one of many Do It recordings now represented by Cherry Red.
